Bright Climbing Hearts -Guest Heart Thursday

Bright yellow hearts climb impossible heights in the old swimming pool room.   I am so glad to have caught this unlikely combination of blue light fixture and yellow paint.

There is nothing left of the swimming pool building now.  It was located off to the left hand side of your screen.  Soon there will be a neighborhood and The Abandoned will be just a memory.  I do miss the mystery of the old days! 

Still--there is the forest.  It is still as beautiful as ever.

Heart in Hand -Guest Heart Thursday

There are more hearts here to be found, than just that in the center of the hand.  This wall is long gone--just an echo of memory now.

I still love the colors and odd enchantment to be found in this photo.

Basement Graffiti Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

I had forgotten about this odd set of pictures on the wall in the basement area of the now destroyed main building.  What a canvas!  One could find just about anything on those distressed walls.  Some graffiti was beautiful.  This is not beautiful, but it is surely interesting to the eyes.

Remembering the Artists of The Abandoned

Though The Abandoned is now a pile of rubble, I am still in awe of the incredible art once found there. These are only a few of the pictures I've taken over the years.  A big thank you to the Artists of The Abandoned.

Fallen Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

So sad to see this amazing place turned into rubble.  I will miss its magic.  Though I wonder if some of that special sense of wonder will still remain.  With the forests of old growth nearby, perhaps it will.

Perhaps the shadow people will roam the halls of all those new homes which will soon sprout like so many mushrooms.

Enter here little Ghostie

I was going through some photographs from my last walk with Sissie, when I discovered this interesting picture.  As you can see--there's a little ghostie in the middle at the bottom of the photo.  Brrrr....  (grin)  It was not shining full sunlight, so I found its presence to be interesting.

Looks like the Shadow People are still out and about!

Inside Out

When I visit my parents home, it is a treat to go walking with my sister, Clytie.  We often visit the woods of our childhood and sometimes, when weather allows--we walk through The Abandoned.  However, since Dad died just before Thanksgiving, I have not had the privilege of walking here.  This was from my first visit here in a long time.  A LOT of change has taken place over the past three months.

Here is a shot of what was once the inside of the building--now outside.  It is hard to get one's bearings, especially since the more familiar graffiti pieces were obscured by the staff of Grimm.  These are more of their fanciful designs.   It is mystifying to try to figure out where things once were and to get one's bearings within these broken buildings.

That high window once looked out over the inside of the building.  I believe it was the children's classrooms.

I liked this window with it's floating piece of stone.  There's something magical about this photo.  It is an interesting study of beauty and destruction.  There will always be a bit of magic permeating this landscape--even when the buildings are gone.

Grimm Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

I enjoy walking with my sister.  Last week, for the first time in months, she and I walked through The Abandoned.  It was the first time I'd visited since Dad flew away to heaven just before Thanksgiving.  Somehow, it seems fitting, now that Dad is gone, that these buildings should be leveled to make way for something beautiful.  He would have liked that.

While Dad was in the hospital, the television series called Grimm filmed one of their episodes in The Abandoned.  They covered a lot of the local graffiti with their own sort of painted artwork.  This interesting heart is one of those.  It is surreal to see this heart outside, when not so long ago, it was inside.  Soon this heart will be gone, too.

Sissy and I often ponder how odd it will be when these buildings are completely gone.  I am so glad we took pictures of what will soon be a magical memory.

The Magic Lives On

Yesterday I visited The Abandoned for the first time in months.  Sissy and I were in awe of the demolition taking place.  Everywhere there is twisted wreckage and broken walls.  Though the main structure is still mostly intact, I was amazed to see how much land had been revealed.  The complex is HUGE.

One can still peak through a window from the outside to the inside--to see the work of graffiti artists.  I loved this contrast of winter grasses and swirled blue.

This is another example of fabulous graffiti art from the television show, Grimm.  How truly fun to see a smiling face perched behind piles of twisted metal and rubble.  An inside wall, now on the outside.  Amazing.  This funny face made me laugh.

The magic of The Abandoned still lives.  Even when it is gone, the ghosts of memories will persist.

Hearts, Hearts, Everywhere - Guest Heart Thursday

Hearts are everywhere in The Abandoned.  They march down the stairways...

They hide behind doors and dance over old plumbing...

They even decorate the trees growing along the edge of the building.  Both nature and Graffiti Artists have bedecked The Abandoned in hearts!

Mossy Stump Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

The last time we walked in The Abandon, Sissy and I found lots and lots of hearts--this one in the top of a moss-covered stump, was the prettiest, I thought. I am sure faeries must live nearby.

I loved the angle of heart curling up onto the wall.  It is an eye bender!

Somehow the vandals have found their way back up onto the rooftop.  But I didn't mind this cheerful blue heart.  I am enamored with many of the incredible graffiti art pieces found in and on these buildings.

Splashed With Hearts -Guest Heart Thursday

Ned and his friends splashed hearts across The Abandoned--At first I was at loss to know how they accomplished drawing hearts clear up to this three-story ceiling in the pool area--then I saw the pipes!  Brave souls, I must say.

Sissy and I found these hearts on the side wall at the base of one of the stairways.

Just below the cause way, past the main auditorium, I caught this sparkle highlighting another heart.

Nature joined in, just as we were leaving--with this cool sunny heart in the corner.

Art in The Abandoned - Guest Heart Thursday

One can often find heart art in graffiti here and there in The Abandoned.  The collection of hearts with bright candy stripe flower above, are a delight to my eye.  This artwork is found in the lower loading dock area.

 

Walking on the ground floor through the jagged edges of a jaggedly bashed wall, Sissy and I  chanced upon some odd looking residents.  These are new.

It looks like some giant insect, or perhaps a fanciful being from the future--whatever it is, I love it and feel intrigued.

 In a nearby hallway there is another incredibly colorful work of art.  

 Birthday Boy Uter sems to have made his mark here.

 I adore the color of this piece.

It is the color of the Forgetmenots Sissy and I found growing outside in the cool shade of the trees.
