Grimm was Here!

It is fun to watch the episode of Grimm featured in this building.  My parents lived right across the street.  It was a great shock to turn into the driveway and note two of the stars of that show standing at the end of my uncle's driveway a few yards away.

It was raining the evening the series was filming in the Abandon's Common.  There were flashes of light, a huge boom shining a great light on to the area from several stories high.  One could hear gunshots, yelling and howling!

It was great fun to watch from the driveway.  Nostalgic.

Daddy was in the VA Hospital.  He smiled over our stories of Grimm's film shoot.  A few weeks later, Dad flew away to heaven.

This weekend my family and I will be going to visit him at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. We all miss him very much.

Blessings and peace to all those who fought for freedom.  We honor them this Memorial Day Weekend.

Inside Out

When I visit my parents home, it is a treat to go walking with my sister, Clytie.  We often visit the woods of our childhood and sometimes, when weather allows--we walk through The Abandoned.  However, since Dad died just before Thanksgiving, I have not had the privilege of walking here.  This was from my first visit here in a long time.  A LOT of change has taken place over the past three months.

Here is a shot of what was once the inside of the building--now outside.  It is hard to get one's bearings, especially since the more familiar graffiti pieces were obscured by the staff of Grimm.  These are more of their fanciful designs.   It is mystifying to try to figure out where things once were and to get one's bearings within these broken buildings.

That high window once looked out over the inside of the building.  I believe it was the children's classrooms.

I liked this window with it's floating piece of stone.  There's something magical about this photo.  It is an interesting study of beauty and destruction.  There will always be a bit of magic permeating this landscape--even when the buildings are gone.

Grimm Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

I enjoy walking with my sister.  Last week, for the first time in months, she and I walked through The Abandoned.  It was the first time I'd visited since Dad flew away to heaven just before Thanksgiving.  Somehow, it seems fitting, now that Dad is gone, that these buildings should be leveled to make way for something beautiful.  He would have liked that.

While Dad was in the hospital, the television series called Grimm filmed one of their episodes in The Abandoned.  They covered a lot of the local graffiti with their own sort of painted artwork.  This interesting heart is one of those.  It is surreal to see this heart outside, when not so long ago, it was inside.  Soon this heart will be gone, too.

Sissy and I often ponder how odd it will be when these buildings are completely gone.  I am so glad we took pictures of what will soon be a magical memory.

For more heart art, photography and altogether fabulous heart stuff from around the world, visit Clytie at Random Hearts for Guest Heart Thursday.

Grimm In The Abandoned (Warehouse, that is...)

Almost everyone has heard of Grimm, a national series in its second season, shot in Oregon, airing on Friday nights.  It is an interesting tale, all about werewolves and other such supernatural beings who live undetected among us.  Nick, the Grimm can see through the disguises of these creatures and chases the bad guys down.  The Abandoned, of course, is the perfect foil for an episode set in an abandoned warehouse.

Sissy called to laugh over how much our family had enjoyed listening to howling in the woods, then shots fired, more howling in various places and more spats of gunfire.  It was a wonderful distraction, as we have all been so worried about Dad.  She said people all over the neighborhood were calling 911 to report the ruckus.  I was sorry I missed the action that night.

When I pulled into our parents' driveway last week, I was astonished to note two of the series' Stars standing under the oak tree at the end of our uncle's driveway.  That was rather exciting.  I pretended I didn't see them.  Folks who are well-known don't like to be noticed.

After I returned from Portland that day, I stayed around a little while.  As soon as it was dark, howling in the woods commenced.  What fun!  Then spats of what sounded like machine guns firing.

The picture above was taken from the driveway and is of a boom hanging over the scene they were shooting.  There is a man in the boom, operating lights and perhaps cameras.

Here is a closeup.  If you look at the enlarged photo you can almost see the boom operator.

Above is one of the trailers they brought in for the comfort of the stars.

The lighting shining through the trees along the road was awesome.  What an adventure to be so close to an actual film shoot.

A few days later, they packed up nearly everything and left.

Episode 214, Natural Born Wesen, including green toxic sludge, will be airing in January, or February.

From the script, this seems to be a fascinating story complete with supernatural bad guys and powerful good guys--along with some spectacularly noisy special effects.

Of course, I wouldn't be a bit surprised to discover there are real monsters inhabiting the mysterious region of The Abandoned.

We also heard some wonderful news yesterday.  Word was the owners of The Abandoned would be tearing down this wonderful place starting November 1st.  We were excited to discover they will not be pulling the buildings down just yet.

WARNING: You shouldn't visit The Abandoned without permission from the owner or caretaker. If you do, you risk getting arrested for trespassing.
