Archway of the Abandoned
Sissy and I went for another walk through the forests near The Abandoned. There we found this giant moss-covered arch held up by chance, by an old snag. We thought it would make a wonderful place for a faery wedding--and who knows, perhaps it was--there was a sort of magic about it.
Beneath the arch we found this fat green tree frog. He sat so quietly on Sissy's hand. I think he liked sitting there.

Pitch Fall - Weekend Reflections
Clytie and I spotted this glistening pitch fall as we walked along the road near The Abandoned. This looks like a lovely fall of golden honey.
In reality, tree pitch will stick to everything and it doesn't come off! If you DO get pitch on your hands, rubbing alcohol will remove it--as does peanut butter!

Beauty in The Abandoned
There are new owners who are evaluating the property and buildings of The Abandoned! They were in a meeting as Sissy and I made our rounds. I hope they will undo what the previous owners have allowed here. This is a decidedly exciting development!
I thought the 15 mph sign was interesting with the kitchen area of The Abandoned in view.
I don't know that I've ever seen a pink Queen Anne's Lace flower before. I loved this picture--it almost seems magical to me.
Near the grounds of The Abandoned we found this ancient maple tree. It is massive.
I am sure it was here, growing green and strong, when the Union fought the South in America's Civil War, maybe even before that. I am in awe of its sheer size and age.
We found the fire bush in bloom. What lovely blossoms! It is so interesting to find such contrasts of beauty and ugliness all in one place. Today I have concentrated upon the mostly beautiful side of The Abandoned.

Frosty Shadows - Shadow Shot Sunday
It was early December. My beloved sister was in the hospital and I had spent the night at my parents' home to be at her side as quickly as possible the next day.
Despite the deep shadows of The Abandoned--our family had experienced a miracle.
I caught these wonderful frosty blackberry leaves shining in the early morning sun. The whole world seemed different that day, when the sun spilled sparkled fingers of warmth through the crisp air.

It's a UFO!!! No--just lighting left unscathed in The Abandoned. It is incredible these fixtures been spared the violence of the illusive vandals.

Field of Daisies - Dark Mysteries
Sissy and I often walk the grounds around and near The Abandoned. In early Summer the fields are filled with pungent daisies almost as far as the eye can see.
In places the cheerful smile of the Daisy is contrasted against a mysterious and sometimes forbidding outline. One is reminded of hidden mysteries, darkened rooms and underground tunnels going nowhere in particular.
But you have to admit--there's practically nothing as happy, or as cheerful, as a field of Daisies!

Where the Shadow People Live
There are shadow people who live in The Abandoned. I have not seen them myself, but I have felt them slipping through the darkness as Sissy and I walk through the buildings.
I was not surprised, when going through my photos, to discover a shadow person lurking in that dark hallway--Oh! Phew! It's just Sissy, the Artist. She's no doubt taking an incredible shot at that moment!

Suspended - Weekend Reflections
Along long darkened hallways within The Abandoned, one can sometimes catch a glimpse of unexpected beauty. In a slotted window looking into the place where children once played, I caught this suspended piece of broken glass glowing in the sunlight. Unexpected it was in that dark place. One didn't expect sunlight to come slipping in through the shattered windows above.

Crystalline Spiderweb - Skywatch Friday
One finds many broken windows in The Abandoned. Nearly every door and window has been shattered by vandals. Oddly enough--the glimmer of this broken glass, spiderwebbed across blue sky is strangely beautiful.

Heart of Glass
This shiny little heart is smaller than a fingertip. Sissy and I were walking along a pathway in The Abandoned where shards of glass from the shattered windows lie everywhere--I was startled when I spotted this tiny heart gleaming from its bed of moss.
Beauty can be found nearly anywhere!

The Gruesome and The Gorgeous
One can find all sorts of exotic flowerings along the overgrown roads and paths of The Abandoned. These blossoms were especially beautiful.
Further on Sissy and I discovered this red smoke tree overtaking this graceful twirl of stone stairs.
The tree seemed almost nonchalant, as it rested on it's elbows, to peek over the railing.
The back of this enormous building seemed foreboding...
Once inside Sissy and I discovered the magnificent fireplace had been stained with what looked like blood. There seemed to be a heavy darkness in the air. Why would someone do this?
Back outside in the sunny parking lot, we both felt released from the darkness we had found in the bowels of The Abandoned.
The innocence of a flock of small birds were a delight to the eye and food for the soul.
I stood for a moment, wondering. Is there hope for The Abandoned? One can only dream about such things.

There are so many wonderful plants growing in and around The Abandoned. I happened to catch these glowing crimson leaves as they strayed across the cloud strewn skies.
