Johnny's Got Heart - Guest Heart Thursday

Last Spring Johnny Jump Ups were resplendent throughout the woods surrounding The Abandoned.  Neither Sissy nor I had ever seen so many of them in one place before--these cheerful flowers literally carpeted the forest floor.  It is a part of the magic of this place.  One never knows what unexpected  beauty one might find!

March of the Mushrooms

In our wanderings through the spectacular grounds of The Abandoned last Spring, Sissy and I found this March of the Mushrooms along an old decayed stump.

Oak Leaf Heart in The Abandoned - Guest Heart Thursday

Last summer, walking with my sister in The Abandoned, I caught this heart shaped opening in the overshadowing oak trees.  I haven't been able to walk there for some time--I hear there has been some clean up going on in The Abandoned.  I look forward to posting shots of its new look.  I imagine such a wonderfully magic place will respond to any efforts to clean and use the place.  It will always be a magical place to me.

Down the Spiral Staircase

I often walk the grounds of The Abandoned with my sister Clytie.  We grew up across the street from these amazing buildings and have both been appalled at the neglect and vandalism taking place in the absence of the owner.  I have actually called news media and others to try to get some kind of attention for what is happening here.  No one seems to care.

It is a wonderful place for some startling photography.  This is the spiral staircase leading up to what used to be the offices of The Abandoned.  I set the camera on the banister and clicked this picture.  Something about it catches the eye.

He Lost His Heart - Guest Heart Thursday

At the end of the skywalk, on the sidewalk where the great outdoor fireplace stands I found this, er, silhouette of a man--who's obviously lost his heart--which seems to be sitting at his feet.  Gruesome--but sometimes that is what one will find in The Abandoned.

Resolute

A charming memory of what once was stands resolute above an abysmal gray wall of vandalism.

Shadows dance beneath arched walls, still beautiful beneath their scars.

The end of the sky bridge is abrupt and seemingly cold.  Yet one can see small spots of beauty.

Fat Shroom - Guest Heart Thursday

This time of year one can find all kinds of various fungi in and around The Abandoned.  This Fat Shroom caught my fancy right away--it made me laugh.  I'm sure this shroom must be saying, I'm such a "fungi."  (grin)
