Magical Forest Tree Heart -Guest Heart Thursday
Last summer I took this picture of the sun sparkling through the trees. If you look below the sunsparkle, you can see there are several places where the sky comes through the leaves of the forest to form hearts. It is such a beautiful, magical place.

Knot Heart - Guest Heart Thursday
The forests near The Abandoned are full of great trees. From a nearby public park, you can walk through a stand of old growth fir and oak. Their beauty is stunning. Some of these oaks are taller than most city sky scrapers. Do you see the heart?
Eons ago this tree lost a branch and now wears its heart for all to see. The licorice fern draping the side of the Knot Heart was once harvested by Northwest American Indian tribes. They used the root both raw and cooked. The root is sweet, but is thin and fibrous and was often used as an appetizer for children who would not eat. Apart from its use as a pleasantly flavored chew, it was seen as a famine food and was harvested when there was a shortage of better foods. Yes, it really does taste like licorice.

Tree Heart and Onyx the Cat - Guest Heart Thursday
I feel blessed to be able to walk there, with my sister Clytie. By the way, if you visit this place you will need permission from the owners. I never come here without walking with someone who has permission. Above you can see the heart of The Abandoned. I took this picture some time ago.One never knows what one will find in The Abandoned. Last Friday I introduced my friend Amber to my family and to the mystery of this place.
Meet Onyx--Amber's alter ego. He came with her to visit The Abandoned.
He immediately plopped to the cold cement floor to insist he "didn't do it..."
Dear little Onyx didn't waste time getting into trouble...
BIG trouble!
His Mommy Amber promptly stuck him into her bag--and he hasn't been seen since. If you'd like to see more of AmberArtist's work, visit her on Etsy at AnemaeGirl.

Heart Within Heart - Guest Heart Thursday
Last weekend, Sissy and I went for one of our walks through The Abandoned. Of course, Sissy saw this one first. This heart of wood was a Heart Within Hearts. Like Sissy and me. Our hearts are inextricably intertwined. Her heart within mine and my heart within hers.
On this Thanksgiving Day, I thank God for my sisters and brothers--for our parents, our grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles. My life would not be what it is without each and every one of them.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Gaze of Tree Heart - Guest Heart Thursday
Walking through The Abandoned, one can find all kinds of magical things. As Sissy and I trekked through the grounds last summer, I felt someone watching us--you know that feeling--a sort of shivery sensation, right up the nape of the neck?
Glancing up, I saw this heart gazing down at Sissy and me. It seemed quite intrigued, as can be seen by the look its, er, face--and the very attitude of it's, er, body language. Amazing what can be inferred without one single word.
What do you think it's saying?
