Broken Hearts -Guest Heart Thursday

These were the hunks and chunks of what was once The Abandoned.  Since the day I took this picture, these chunks have been reduced to pea sized gravel.  Not a bad thing.  Sissy and I have discovered one can find the most amazing agates and beautiful rocks in the piles of gravel left in the wake of the destruction of The Abandoned.

How grateful I am to see that the magic of the forest of our childhood is still alive and well.

Lichen This Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

How amazing to find such exquisite detail in such a tiny bit of lichen.  This heart is smaller than a pencil eraser!  I like the contrast of limb, moss and lichen. The heart is perfect for Guest Heart Thursday!

Bright Climbing Hearts -Guest Heart Thursday

Bright yellow hearts climb impossible heights in the old swimming pool room.   I am so glad to have caught this unlikely combination of blue light fixture and yellow paint.

There is nothing left of the swimming pool building now.  It was located off to the left hand side of your screen.  Soon there will be a neighborhood and The Abandoned will be just a memory.  I do miss the mystery of the old days!

Still--there is the forest.  It is still as beautiful as ever.

What a Sap! -Guest Heart Thursday

This is a photo of pitch, or sap flowing over the bark of a fir tree.  This is the fir tree's way of healing itself.  The results can be quite beautiful.  What I liked about this one, is the green reflection of the forest that is caught in the golden droplets.  It is quite lovely.

There are two hearts to be found in th is picture--one is VERY tiny!

I can hardly wait to go walking in the Forests of my childhood.  It is always so beautiful when spring comes to the canyon and the forest surrounding what once was The Abandoned.

Crackle Mud Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

Sissy and I went for a walk through The Abandoned last week.  She was the one who found this heart for me.  Who would have thought of looking for a heart in a crackly, dry mud puddle?

Here is the view of all that is left of the main building.  You can't really tell it, but I am standing at the top of a very steep cliff.  The tracks of big equipment are actually far below.  Those piles of gravel are HUGE.  One can find the most amazing agates and rocks here.

Above you see the main building which once stood here.  They've done a very good job of  reducing the entire complex to bits and pieces of gravel and rubble.

It still seems magical to me.  Especially the forests which still surround this area.

Crack in the Clouds -SkyWatch Friday

The sun was so bright that day, I could hardly take the picture.  You can see a tiny bit of rainbow where the sun peeks through the crack in the clouds.

Clouds Over The Abandoned -SkyWatch Friday

One can always find something to look at in the forests surrounding what once was abandoned.  The skies are full of clouds, the woods are full of life.  I took this picture awhile back.  I can hardly wait to walk again in the forests of my childhood--it has been too soggy yet this Spring to do so.  We've broken a lot of records for daily rainfall since January!  But we are expecting good weather next week--perhaps I'll step into the magic of childhood once again then.

Have a lovely weekend.

Heart in Hand -Guest Heart Thursday

There are more hearts here to be found, than just that in the center of the hand.  This wall is long gone--just an echo of memory now.

I still love the colors and odd enchantment to be found in this photo.

Have a lovely day and Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

White Lichen Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

Isn't this a lovely collection of lichen and moss?  I especially like the little white lichen heart.  With all the rain we've had over the last few months, the moss and such are thriving in all their plush glory.  I wish you could see the beauty of the Forests of my childhood.

It is magical there.  Have a lovely weekend and Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

Yellow Hearts -Guest Heart Thursday

Though these buildings no longer exist, I still find delight in going through all the photographs I have taken over the years.  I love the contrast of the yellow hearts with the cobalt blue of the light fixture.  And how those young'uns ever climbed up that high--well, I guess I'll never know!

Have a lovely day and Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

Mysterious Forest -Guest Heart Thursday

I took this photo last spring.  Though buildings of The Abandoned are gone, there is still the forest of my childhood.  It is a small, mysterious pocket of wild wood, which seems filled with ancient enchantments.  If one listens close enough, one might hear the laughter of children and the song of faeries.

If you look closely, there are hearts hidden everywhere.

Honeysuckle Leaf Hearts -Guest Heart Thursday

As I type these words, it is snowing outside.  It has been snowing all day long.  This winter storm is one they say is more like a January snowstorm, here in the Mid-Willamette Valley of Oregon.  It has only snowed once this winter...in comparison to the rest of the country, which has been locked into a snowy deep freeze.

These are the blooms of honeysuckle from the forests of my childhood, tucked in amidst the hazelnut trees.  I have some very special memories involving these wonderful vines.  I've seen them twirling up the side of a gigantic fir tree to swing fragrant blossoms overhead.

But by far my favorite memories are from when my brothers and sisters and I would make hallways and rooms by tying and twining the branches of the hazelnut limbs together.  The honeysuckles would grow up and throughout the walls of our magical play place.  These memories are lovely to my heart.  I can still feel the grass beneath me, the crickets singing there in those fragrant rooms.

Have a beautiful day and Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

Wild Rose

This is a wild rose, found in our area--especially throughout the forests surrounding what once was The Abandoned.

Once more, I find I am longing for Spring.

Basement Graffiti Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

I had forgotten about this odd set of pictures on the wall in the basement area of the now destroyed main building.  What a canvas!  One could find just about anything on those distressed walls.  Some graffiti was beautiful.  This is not beautiful, but it is surely interesting to the eyes.

Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

Magical Forest Tree Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

Last summer I took this picture of the sun sparkling through the trees.  If you look below the sunsparkle, you can see there are several places where the sky comes through the leaves of the forest to form hearts.  It is such a beautiful, magical place.
