Mossy Heart - Guest Heart Thursday

This wonderful mossy heart came from the top of a cement hand rail.  What I didn't notice until I got home, is the white color fraying the ends of the moss, is actually tiny glistening water drops. You can see this better if you click for the larger view.

There is always something magical and beautiful to be found in The Abandoned.

Spring Showers, Reflections Outside In

It is striking to see the forest reflected so beautifully, standing deep within The Abandoned.   Though there are many places which are dark and sometimes frightening, I am often surprised how often we find nature's beautiful reflection outside in.

Leave the Heart - Guest Heart Thursday

The last time Sissy and I walked through The Abandoned, I spied this dried leaf heart lying in the moss which covers the sidewalks. It was as though something had arranged this heart--it was so perfect.

Under Glass - Weekend Reflections

This looks like an underwater shot complete with seaweed!  However, this is actually a tiny piece of broken glass no bigger than my thumb, pressed against the moss where it had fallen.  I thought it perfect for Weekend Reflections.

Heart of the Matter - Guest Heart Thursday

What fun to walk the halls, rooms, forests and fields of The Abandoned once more, with my sweet Sister.  Along the road, where the vegetation thickly contests its right to be there, we found this wonderfully unusual flowering tree.

As you can see, the centers of these beautiful blossoms are filled with tiny fragrant flowers.  I am sure faeries must visit here.

Giant of The Abandoned

This maple tree must be hundreds of years old.  It is huge. There is something mysterious about a tree this ancient.  The immensity of the passing years place a certain alluring patina from the past here.   One wonders what stories a tree like this could tell, if it could talk.

Surprisingly, many old growth trees are found nearby, this is only one of the giants to be seen near The Abandoned

Here is a closeup of only one of the portions of this huge tree--timeless beauty.

Busted Bucket Heart - Guest Heart Thursday

One day last Fall on one of our walks through The Abandoned, Sissy and I found this battered bucket heart.  Yes, those are Sissy's shoes.
